The words, "sum of" mean 'the added together value of'...

For instance, "What is the sum of 15, 20 and 45?"

The method is to add each of these figures together:

EG. 15 + 20 + 45

The answer, of course, is 80 ... written:

15 + 20 + 45 = 80, or

15+20+45=80
