The factor pairs of -138 are (138,-1)(69,-2)(46,-3)(23,-6)(-138,1)(-69,2)(-46,3)(-23,6)

None of them add up to -23. If you were just using factors of -138, you could use -46 and 23.

__________________________________________

Assume the two numbers are x and y, then

xy = -138. .............. 1

x + y = -23. ...............2

From eq 1

y = -138/x ............... 3

Substitute in eq 2;

x + -138/x = -23

Or

x2 +23x -138 = 0

Solve for x and then substitute in 3 to get y.

Another Answer:-

The numbers are: 4.939282223 and -27.939282223
