∙ 13y agoGiven equations x - y = 8 and x + y = -2, rearrange one of the equations so that it is in terms of one variable, then plug it in to the other equation to solve for an actual value. Ex:
x - y = 8 ----> x=8+y
8 +y + y = -2 ----combine like terms
8 + 2y =-2, subtract 8 from both sides, then divide by 2 to solve for y
y= -5
Plug in to x - y = 8 equation
x -(-5) = 8, x+5 = 8, subtract 5 from both sides
x = 3
So x = 3 and y = -5
