since you have 4 sides :- 2 * x & 2 * (x + 7)

so

2x+2(x+7)=82

2x+2x+14=82

4x = 68

x = 17 feet

The width is 17 feet.

Method II:

Length + width = half perimeter = 41 ft.

Subtract 7 and half the answer gives 17 which is the width.

(Add back the 7 and the length turns out to be 24 ft.)
