There are code rule that allow the use of back feeding specific breakers. Before doing any such action check with the local electrical inspector. If your thoughts are along the line of feeding a generator into the electrical panel during a power failure, don't do it. There is electrical apparatus in the market place now that allows such action, use it. Remember that you can be help liable for any damage to utility company personnel or equipment.

Did my dryer trip the breaker or vice versa when I turned the breaker back on but now the dryer won't work?

The dryer tripped the breaker. Have it repaired. Don't try to use it again. You could cause a fire.

What size breaker is needed to supply a sub panel that is feeding a range and dryer?

If there is a possibility of both operating simultaneously, then a 100 amp breaker (actually 80 amp if you can find one), and appropriate wiring would be required. Even if they were not expected to operate simultaneously, it would be prudent to wire as if they were.

Can you take a 14 awg wire and hook it to a 12 awg wire?

Yes as long as the breaker feeding the circuit is protected with a 15 amp breaker. The code states that the over current device can be no smaller than that of the smallest current carrying conductor. That will be the #14 wire with a capacity of 15 amps.

Can you put a 60amp breaker and a 50amp breaker on a 60amp subpanel just as long as they are not being used at the same time?

You can. Using these size breakers in a 60 amp sub panel might be pushing the limit for breaking the sub panels feeder breaker. The breaker feeding the sub panel will have to be no bigger than 60 amps because of the main bus bar capacity of the sub panel. It would be better to install a 100 amp sub panel and then there would be a bit of a buffer and you will have the ability to add additional small load circuits.

How do circuit breaker keep the wires in a electrical circuit from overheating?

A circuit breaker is designed to 'break' in a circuit if a short circuit (or other malfunction) occurs. This prevents overheating (or burn-out) of the circuit wires. In older systems, you would need to find which fuse wire has fused and replace it. In a circuit breaker, once the fault has been found and corrected, the breaker is simply switched back on.

How do you read breaker box amps?

The main breaker will have marking indicating size of electrical service, or if it is a fuse system....the fuses will have current ratings. If it is a subpanel, it might not have a main breaker. In this case you would have to look in the panel that the feed is coming from and find the size of the breaker that is feeding it. In either case you must look for the manufacturer's label that will have the maximum current the panel can handle, make sure the breaker feeding the panel doesn't exceed this rating.

What size wire is best to run for a breaker box piggy back from another breaker box?

The wire is sized to the breaker in the main box that is feeding the subpanel. The calculations for the subpanel is based on what devices will use the subpanel and an estimate of duty factors for the devices. An electrician can provide this information, or you can look on-line in the National Electric Code for estimation methods.

What size amp circuit breaker should be used for a pool light?

The pool light is usually on a 15 amp circuit. The breaker feeding this circuit must have a GFCI rating.

What is Local breaker back up protection?

Breaker is a protective device that cuts off the electrical circuit in case of fault. The additional breaker can be provided as backup protection locally, which is known as local back up.

How do you ground your meter box to your breaker box?

The grounding is done through the metal nipple that connects out of the back of the meter base and into the back of the breaker panel.

How do you replace a 15 amp breaker in the circuit box?

The breaker will have a black wire connected to it. Turn off the main breaker and then disconnect that black wire from the breaker. The breaker will snap into the main bar. Remove the breaker and install the new one. Reconnect the black wire to the breaker and then install the cover and turn the main breaker back on.

What is the difference between siphon breaker and vacuum breaker?

Can you use a 20 amp breaker if the amp rating on a heater is 21 amp?

No, a breaker needs to be loaded less than 80 percent. As they reach their tripping point they get hot. The circuit rating, breaker and wiring is not designed for 21 amps. The next size would be a 25 to 30 amp breaker that has #10 wire feeding it.

What type of circuit has double 20amp breaker going to a separate box at that separate box there is a well pump with another 20amp breaker to that?

Sounds like a 240 volt sub panel feeding a well pump.
