y = X^2 - 5X + 3 ( set = to 0 )

X^2 - 5X + 3 = 0

Use the quadratic formula. X = -b +/- sqrt(b^2-4ac)/2a

a = 1

b = -5

c = 3

X = -(-5) +/- sqrt[(-5)^2 - 4(1)(3)]/2(1)

X = 5 +/- sqrt(13)/2

X= 4.302775638

X = 0.6972243623

ugly but true. my TI-84 confirms this answer. Probably use the exact answer.
