slope intercept form is y = mx + b where m=slope and b=y-intercept

first solve the equation for y

7x-5y=35

7x=5y+35

5y=7x-35

y=7x/5-35/5

y=(7/5)x-7

so the slope is 7/5 and the y-intercept is -7

How can you tell if an equation is a linear relationship?

If it is in a y=mx+b format. Also, if there is a slope and a constant in the equation.

What is the definition of linear equation?

A linear equation has a constant rate of change, or slope (change in y (dependent) value over change in x (independent) value), when graphed forms a straight trend line, and is in the format y=mx+b (y is dependent value, m is slope, x is independent value, and b is the y-intercept (the value of y when x=0).

How do you find the y intercept when you have the slope and a point?

The equation of a line can be written in a format called "point slope form". Equations in this form look like y - y1= m(x - x1). In this formula (x1,y1) is any point on the line, m is the slope, x is the input (or dependent variable) and y is the output or dependent variable. Using this, and a given slope and point, you can construct the equation for a line. The y-intercept is the point where a line crosses the y-axis. You don't know where on the y-axis, but you know that the x-value of any point of the y-axis is 0. Therefore, you can solve for the y-intercept bus substituting 0 for x and solving for y.

How can you write the equation of the tangent line to the curve?

Well if you have found the derivative (slope of the tangent line) of the curve at that point and you know the xy coordinates for that point in the curve then you set it up in y=mx+b format where y is your y-coordinate, x is your x-coordinate and m is your derivative and solve for b

What is wrong with this equation let x1 y1 then xy xsquaredyx x-Yyx-y or x Yx-Yyx-Y x yy 21 ignore this question it will not format correctly please go to the discussion area?

This is most likely one of those famous (and flawed) proofs that 1 = 2. Examine it closely and in one of the steps you will be dividing both sides of the equation by (x-y) or (y-x). This is a division by zero, and will yield an undefined result, after which you can infer that the moon is made of green cheese if you really want to. This is an invalid proof. See the link I provide for more information.

What is an equation for slope of -2 and y intercept of 3?

A straight line in slope-intercept format has the equation: y = mx + b Where m is the slope, b the y-intercept. So, all you have to do is copy this equation, then replace "m" by the given slope, and "b" by the given y-intercept.

What is the slope of the direct variation y equals 35x?

It is quite simple. whenever the equation of a line is in the format y=mx+b, the slope is the value of m, in this case 35. The lack of the b or the y-intercept is because it equals 0, so it is not necessary to include a +0.

What is 2x - 3y equals - 6?

1) It is a linear equation containing two unknowns. 2) It is the equation of a straight line. When converted to the standard format y = mx + c it becomes y = 2/3x +2, indicating that the line has a slope of 2/3 and a y intercept of +2.

What is the slope and y-intercept of 4x-3y equals 6?

okay, so to find this the format of the equation is y=mx+b, where m is the slope, and b is the y-int. 4x-3y=6 simplified to that format is: y=1.3333...x+2, so the slope is 1 and 1/3, and the y-int. is 2.

What is the slope of y equals -x plus 3?

The equation you offer represents a line in the y = mx + b format where m is the slope of the line and b is the y-intercept. Since the coefficient of x in this case is understood to be 1, the slope (m) = -1.

Linear equation in non-standard or slope-intercept form?

The slope intercept form is expressed as y = mx + c, where m is the slope and c is the y intercept.If you had a slope intercept linear equation such as y = -1/3x + 5Then this could be presented in a non standard form 3y = 15 - xEach format has its benefits and these will become apparent as your graph/coordinate work develops.

What is 8y plus 4 equals -3x in standard form?

Standard Form or Slope Intercept Form is the equation for a straight line presented in the format y = mx + c. 8y + 4 = -3x 8y = -3x - 4 y = -3/8.x - 4/8 y = -3/8.x - 1/2.........and this is the equation in standard form.

How do you find the slope and y-intercept of an equation?

first of all, i dont see how slope and yintercept has anything to do with shopping. usually in an equation, y= mx+b, m stands for slope, and b is the y-intercept. x and y are just x and y. If the equation is mixed up, and is not in y=mx+b format, you need to solve to get y on one side, the slope, x, and whatever the presented constant is (which is the y-intercept) on the other side. hope this helps.

What is the slope and y intercept of negative 7x plus 3y equals negative 9?

Hey there - First you must put this in y = mx + b (slope intercept format) format, and it will make finding the answers easy. 7x + 3y = -9 3y = -7x - 9 y = -7/3x - 3 Your slope is m, or -7/3 your y intercept is b, or -3 cheers! Donny

How do you do graphing equations?

you can turn the equation in y-intercept format i.e y=mx+b this helps to graph any math equation. P.S: if u don't get the answer to ur question plzz tell me the question to show it to u how it's done.
