YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DIVIDE FIRST!!

you divide the denominator (the bottom half)

by the denominator numerator (top half)

example: 1/4

Do this with me on paper!! WRITE: 4|1 (the | represents the division symbol)

As you can see, 4 can not go into 1 so put a decimal point (dot) behind the one.

Put a decimal point (over the line) above the decimal point behind the one.

Ok. Now put a zero behind the one. Four can go into 10. 4 times 2 equals 8.

So, 4 can go into 10 two times. Put a 2 behind the decimal point (the

decimal point above the line). Under the 10 do subtract 8.

You subtract 8 since 4 times 2 equals 8. 10-8=2. So now you have a

remainder 2. We do not want that. Put another zero behind the

previous zero. Bring down the zero so it is next to the 2. 4 goes

- 8 into 20 how many times? (20 divided by 4, 4 times ___ = 20)

20 divided by 4=5. 4 times 5 =20. So put a 5 next to the 2.

(the 2 above the line).

Put a subtract 20 under the 20. What is 20 minus 20? 0.

.25 is your answer. (This isnt that hard. I just explained it in detail).

If you are good at division. This should be a piece of cake.

Hoped I explained it clearly.

1/4 EQUALS .25

Sometimes, the same digit in the answer will go on forever. In this case, you will put a bar (line) over the digit.

Example: 0.3333333333 ... (the 3's go on forever) can become 0.3 with a bar on top of the 3.

Sometimes, if a hole phrase is endlessly repeated, then you put a bar on top of that entire phrase.

Example 0.37489489489489489489 ... (the 489's go on forever) can become 0.37489 with a bar on top of the 489.

For example, the problem 6/27. 27 can not go into 6. so make six into 60. (you know how to do it! if u read above.) 27 times 2 equals 54.

DO THE PROBLEM.

your answer goes on forever. it should be .22222222222222 . . . (keeps going on).
