You need to find the lowest common denominator.

For example-

1/6 + 2/12 =

2/12 + 2/12=4/12

you need to multiply the 6 two times to get 12 and what you do to the bottom you always do to the top so you multiply 1 by 2 and get 2!

You divide or multiply the denominator and numerator of the fractions in order for the denominators to match. For example:

We have the two fractions 5/6 and 4/7. We can multiply the first fraction's numerator and denominator by 7 to get 35/42. We can multiply the second fraction's numerator and denominator by 6 to get 24/42.

Therefore we would then have 35/42 and 24/42 with matching denominators.

How do you compare improper fractions with larger numerators than denominators?

The same way as proper fractions. Make sure the denominators are the same. If they're not, convert them to equivalent fractions with similar denominators. Then you can see which numerator is greater.

How do you subtract improper fractions with different denominators?

It's the same thing as adding or subtracting normal fractions - just make sure both fractions have the same denominators (by either multiplying the denominators or simplifying the fraction - whichever the question needs).

How do you minnous fractions?

Subtracting fractions is similar to adding fractions. If the fractions have the same denominator, you subtract the numerators. If the fractions have different denominators, you have to convert to a common denominator first.Subtracting fractions is similar to adding fractions. Do you find the GCF or LCM when adding fractions?

When adding fractions, you want to make sure that the denominators are the same. It's the same process as the LCM.

What are characteristics of like fractions?

They have the same denominators

IS THE LCD OF TWO FRACTIONS THE SAME AS THE LCM NUMERATORS AND FRACTIONS?

The LCD of two fractions is the same as the LCM of their denominators.

How is adding like fractions and adding unlike fractions the same?

If the denominators are not the same, then you have to use equivalent fractions which do have a common denominator . To do this, you need to find the least common multiple (LCM) of the two denominators. To add fractions with unlike denominators, rename the fractions with a common denominator. Then add and simplify.

How do you add fractions togather?

first make denominators the same and add.

What the difference between like and unlike fraction?

fractions having same denominators are like fractions & others are unlike fractions

When adding fractions do denominators change?

you must make the denominators the same first in order to add them once they are added, the denominators stay the same and the top combines

Are the steps for like and unlike denominators the same or different?

It depends what you are doing with the fractions. If you are multiplying or dividing fraction, the denominators do not need to be the same and the calculation can be carried out immediately. If you are adding or subtracting fractions, the denominators must be the same; if you have different denominators, the fractions must first be changed into equivalent fractions with the same denominator. When the denominators are the same (or have been made the same as equivalent fractions from being different) the calculation can be carried out.

Fractions Have The Same Denominators?

Not always but they need to have the same denominators when adding or subtracting them.

How does using fraction strips with like denominators make it possible to add fractions with unlike denominators?

because they are the same number
