Cubic meters is the volume of an object. (volume is the measurement in three dimensions) Square meters is the area of an object. (area is the measurement in one dimension or simply put, flat) You can calculate the area of an three dimensional object if you know the volume in cubic meters though. For example, if an object is three cubic meters than it is a cube that is made with twenty seven one cubic meter cubes. (3 x 3 x 3) So if you wanted to know the area of the cube then you want to know how much is the area on each of the six sides of the cube. (cubes have six sides, duh!) Since one side is 3 x 3 then that is 9 square meters and since the cube has 6 sides then just multiply 6 X 9 and you get 54 square meters for a 3 cubic meter cube. Don't believe me? Get some sugar cubes (each cube being a 1 cubic meter make believe) and do the math in real life. LOL I hope this is what you wanted.
