f(x) = x2 + 6x - 2
∴f'(x) = 2x + 6
if f'(x) = 0, then:
0 = 2x + 6
∴2x = -6
∴x = -2
f(-2) = -22 + 6*-2 - 2
= 4 - 12 - 2
= -10

So the vertex of the parabola occurs at the point (-2, -10)
