let x = 1st number , then -22 - x = 2nd number

x(-22 - x) = 168

x2 + 22x = -168

x2 + 22x + 121 = -168 + 121

(x + 11)2 = -47

x + 11 = +/- sq rt (-47)

x = -11 + i sq rt(47) --- 1st number

-22 - x = -11 - i sq rt(47) --- 2nd number
