the cord that passes through the center of the circle is known as the diameter, the whole circle on the out side is known as the circumference, the dot in the middle is known as the center and the radius is the line what goes half way through the circle from the diameter.

What is a line through a circle called?

A line that goes through a circle is a secant line. (Remember that a line is infinitely long.) Anyline that passes through a circle is a secant line, whether it passes through the center of the circle or not. Compare this to a line segment with endpoints on the circumference of a circle. That segment is called a cord of that circle. If the cord of a circle passes through the center of that circle, it is a diameter of that circle, which is the longest cord of the circle.

Does a chord of a circle have to go through the center?

No, the cord of a circle does not have to go through the center of that circle. A chord that does go through the center of a circle is a special case and is called the diameter. A chord can connect any two points on a circle.

How would you construct an isosceles triangle if only given the vertex angle and the radius of the circumscribed circle?

You have an isosceles triangle, and a circle that is drawn around it. You know the vertex angle of the isosceles triangle, and you know the radius of the circle. If you use a compass and draw the circle according to its radius, you can begin your construction. First, draw a bisecting cord vertically down the middle. This bisects the circle, and it will also bisect your isosceles triangle. At the top of this cord will be the vertex of your isosceles triangle. Now is the time to work with the angle of the vertex. Take the given angle and divide it in two. Then take that resulting angle and, using your protractor, mark the angle from the point at the top of the cord you drew. Then draw in a line segment from the "vertex point" and extend it until it intersects the circle. This new cord represents one side of the isosceles triangle you wished to construct. Repeat the process on the other side of the vertical line you bisected the circle with. Lastly, draw in a line segment between the points where the two sides of your triangle intersect the circle, and that will be the base of your isosceles triangle.

Cord of firewood?

A "cord" is a unit of measure for firewood. It is a stack of wood that is 4'x4'x8'. That is 128 cubic feet of wood.

How many square feet in cord of wood?

Does a cord that is a diameter always pass through the center of the circle?

Yes, a cord that is a diameter always passes through the center of a circle. And it's also the longest cord of that circle.

What is the straight line through the center of a circle called?

A line that goes through a circle is a secant line. (Remember that a line is infinitely long.) Anyline that passes through a circle is a secant line, whether it passes through the center of the circle or not. Compare this to a line segment with endpoints on the circumference of a circle. What is a line that passes through the center of a circle?

Any line that passes through a circle and touches two points on its circumference is a secant line. (Recall that a line is infinitely long.) If the line passes through the center of the circle, it is still called a secant line. Compare this to a line segment that has its endpoints on the circumference of the circle. That line segment is called the cord of the circle. If that cord passes through the center of the circle, it is a diameter of the circle, which is the longest cord of that circle.

What is a line through a circle that does not go through the center?

A line through a circle that does not go through the center of the circle is a secant line. A line through a circle that does go through the center is still a secant line, by the way. Compare this to a line segment that has its two endpoints on the circumference of the circle. That line segment is a cord of the circle. If that cord of the circle passes through the center of the circle, then the cord is a diameter of that circle.

Can the diameter of a circle pass through the center of a circle?

A diameter of a circle must pass through the center of that circle. A cord is a line segment that has its endpoints on the circumference of a circle. It can be any line segment. If that cord also passes through the center of the circle, it is said to be a diameter of that circle. A diameter of a circle is the longest cord of the circle.

A line through the center of a circle from one side to another?

Any line that passes through a circle and touches two points on its circumference is a secant line. (Recall that a line is infinitely long.) The line may or may not pass through the center of the circle, but it is still called a secant line in any case. Compare this to a line segment that has its endpoints on the circumference of the circle. That line segment is called the cord of the circle. If that cord passes through the center of the circle, it is a diameter of the circle, which is the longest cord of that circle.

Does the perpendicular bisector of a cord of a circle passe through the center of the circle?

Yes, the perpendicular bisector of a cord is the shortest distance from the centre of a circle to the cord.
