To factor the quadratic expression x^2 - 9x - 8, we need to find two numbers that multiply to -8 (the constant term) and add up to -9 (the coefficient of the x-term). The two numbers are -1 and 8. Therefore, we rewrite the middle term -9x as -x - 8x. Now, we can factor the expression as (x - 8)(x + 1).

I think this question needs rewording. Maybe like 2x-9x-8 (144 as in a normal maths question)? Or x2x-9x-8 (x144, like a magnifiyer strength). Another rewording option is 2(-9x-8). This equals -18x-16=288 (remember a minus times a minus is a plus) === ===

(x-1)(x-8) is a possible way (it gives x^2 -9x+8) , but you don't say in the question whether it is adds or subtracts inbetween the terms, so this may not be the answer that you require.
