If: y = 2x+1 then y^2 = (2x+1)^2 or 4x^2 +4x +1

If y^2 = 4x^2 +4x +1 and y^2 = 8x

Then: 4x^2 +4x +1 = 8x or 4x^2 -4x +1 = 0

Factorizing the above: (2x-1)(2x-1) = 0 meaning x = 1/2

By substitution into the original equations: y = 2

Therefore the values of the 3 variables are: k = 2, x = 1/2 and y = 2
